Delaney Wright was founded in 2004 by Shelley Acton, an educator for nearly 30 years. She named the school to honor the memory of Delaney Wright who through her battle with cancer, symbolized the wonder and promise of childhood. Ms. Wright still serves as a constant reminder of the courage, strength, and creativity we hope to foster in each child who walks through our doors. From our founding, arts has been at the core of how we approach early childhood learning.
The preschool is part of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the heart of Hollywood. St. Stephen's is unique in that it is not a church where the congregation is called simply to sing and to listen. It is a community that will encourage and inspire you to engage. We are a progressive and diverse Episcopal community. We are affiliated with the Episcopal Church and its five-hundred-year history of academic excellence, but also are always seeking to be a religiously (and racially) diverse school.
Our Commitment to Children
The Delaney Wright Fine Arts Preschool was founded to offer an early childhood alternative to the product-oriented, highly competitive, “hurry and grow up fast” mentality that permeates many of our educational arenas today. Children need to grow into who they will be at their own paces, develop in their unique styles, and take with them fun and wonderful memories of childhood.
Our philosophy is simple: provide a child with a learning environment that is filled with music and singing, dancing, yoga, enriched language, foreign language instruction, storytelling, opportunities for artistic and creative expression, dramatic play, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum, as well as plenty of discovery and exploration experiences, and that child will blossom intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically, while gaining a lifelong love of learning. And who doesn’t want that?
“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.”
Henry Ward Beecher
